Shri Narsingh Agnish
A Fellow Panjabi, Generous Friend and a Music Lover
Almost
four years ago to date (September 20, 2004, in fact), I received an
email from Narsingh Agnish about buying Geet Kosh volumes. He
got them and enjoyed them thoroughly. Also, he found out that one of
his favorite songs was from the movie Begunah. When he inquired about
getting the song, I introduced him to late Satish Kalra and the rest of
the RMIM gang! Since then, he has participated in RMIM discussions,
remembering how and when he saw those old movies that all of us are so
fond of. And by attending RMIM meetings, in a short span of four years,
he has become a veteran RMIMer. In addition, he has set two records
which are going to be very difficult to break. Har Mandir Singh, the
compiler of the world-famous Hindi Film Geet Kosh, has been the
recipient of the largest and the most substantial reward from him. And,
the attendees of the recent (October 2008) RMIM meet at Guri's house in
Denver were the recepients of all the contents of his 80 Gb iPod (the
largest number of songs dstributed by any one in an RMIM meet).
Brief biography
Born in Jalandhar, Panjab in 1940 (luckily managed to escape the horrors
of partition). Obtained an M.Sc. in Zoology from the Panjab University
(it was located in Hoshiarpur at the time), came to Canada in 1962 as
a graduate student, getting a Ph.D. in Anatomy & Cancer Research in
1969 from the University of Saskatchewan. While there (in Saskatoon),
met and married Marleen Ambros in 1969; they have four children (Vivek,
Devinder, Jai, and Asha) all of them married. Two grandsons (from
Vivek) and two granddaughters (from Devinder). Worked at Hoffmann-La
Roche for 25 years as a Teratologist (scientists who study birth
defects except, in his case, it was in animals) retiring in 2003.
Music
(especially Hindi film music), Photography and bridge (the card game,
not
what engineers build) are his hobbies. Like to spend a lot of time with
his grand children. They have two homes, one in NJ and another in
Cumberland, a
small village on the Vancouver Island (about three hours drive north of
Victoria). Narsingh and his wife share the Cumberland home with
their middle son
Devinder.
Here are some recent photographs:

Thanks to Narsingh for sharing his bio and lovely photographs!
He has also very generously agreed to share his songs with all
RMIMers. So, I will be posting songs from his collection about one
filmful at a time. Watch the usual link :)
